Vealance Watts, Owner and Operator at 1000 Watts Trucking, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of transportation.
Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Watts grew up in a family of nine siblings that struggled significantly—impoverished and without many options. But even though they didn’t have much in the way of means, they were very grateful for what they did have. He developed a strong work ethic from an early age, knowing he had to do everything he could to contribute. At one job, he nearly cut his thumb off on a machine, after which his late mother, a great motivator and mentor of his, encouraged him to become a business owner. Fueled by tenacity and perseverance, he worked hard and aimed to better himself—first by studying at the University of Montevallo for a while and then starting 1000 Watts Trucking.
As owner and operator, Mr. Watts drives throughout the country hauling loads to various locations, finding it rewarding to have turned his life around and serve others across the United States. In addition, he knows that his mother would be proud of him and his journey toward achieving what she wanted for him; everything he accomplishes is in her honor. The recipient of two safety awards through his work, he also focuses his energy on paying it forward and feeding the homeless as well as providing gifts for those in need. A devoted man of faith, he considers establishing a relationship with God to be the best decision he’s ever made. His favorite and most relatable quote from the Bible is “If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, ‘till my change comes.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Watts strives to be a professional motivational speaker, through which plans to tell his story of redemption, and then write a book about his life. Encouraging others to follow their dreams no matter their station in life, he advised, “Never give up. Do not give up on your dreams. I [I] can do it, anybody can…”
