Bruno Joseph Borowczyk IV, Principal Engineer at Smurfit Westrock, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of engineering.
From a young age, Mr. Borowczyk developed a strong work ethic, resilience, and perseverance while helping to build houses during the summers. He gravitated toward the manufacturing industry because he understood how important the production of goods was to the masses and the country as a whole. Always interested in the STEM field, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from the ABET-accredited program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout—which he earned in 2017—while gaining hands-on work experience as a low-voltage technician at Great Escape Technologies, Inc. and an electrical engineer technician at Waupaca Foundry.
Between 2017 and 2022, Mr. Borowczyk excelled at Packaging Corporation of America, juggling responsibilities as an electrical project engineer and an electrical reliability engineer. He became the divisional project controls engineer at WestRock Company for two years before landing his current position in 2024 as the principal engineer of project engineering at Smurfit Westrock.
In this capacity, he serves as a project and team manager and a strategic planner, traveling across North America and overseeing the planning, execution, management, and controls of strategic capital programs and projects for paper and packaging facilities. Among his many notable achievements, he considers the most notable to be his management of a large project in Dallas, Texas, to update an old paper machine and bring it up to industry standards in safety, efficiency, and product manufacturing. While a challenge, it was a success and had a significant impact on the business’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
Beyond his primary endeavors, Mr. Borowczyk has also published a paper that was presented at the International Conference on Electro-Information Technology. Looking ahead, he strives to continue utilizing his skills to bolster his company and steer his teams. When he’s not working, he enjoys boating, hunting, playing golf, and spending time outdoors with friends and family; he and his wife, Kaley Anne, have three children.
