Federico Böckel, Consulting Systems Engineer at Fortinet, Inc., has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of technology.

Born and raised in Argentina, Mr. Böckel grew up inspired by his father, who was deeply involved in politics, often interacted with influential people, and eventually became a governor, and his mother, a judge. This environment, in a country where adults typically did not engage with children as equals, fostered his willingness to speak up and challenge authority figures. His independence was further reinforced when, after earning a degree in computer science from the University of Palermo, he relocated to the United States. Starting out in Texas, he moved to New York City in 2003. Despite being offered a list of connections from his father and uncle, he chose to navigate the new location on his own.

With experience as a system administrator in Argentina, Mr. Böckel was active as a technical adviser and analyst at Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. from 2003 to 2004. Developing an expertise in cybersecurity and network security, he served as a security specialist at Globix Corporation before joining the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation. Here, he started as a senior network architect and engineer, roles he held from 2006 to 2010, and advanced to lead network architect and manager, then infrastructure services architect and associate director between 2010 and 2020. He returned to Check Point Software Technologies for a year, where he lent his skills as a professional services consultant, before landing his current position in 2021. Among his myriad responsibilities, he delivers solutions that meet customers’ needs, which often involve a combination of security features for their systems and platforms, especially for internet users, as well as handling technical work.

In the midst of these recent positions, Mr. Böckel bolstered his credentials with a Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity and information assurance, a Master of Business Administration in IT management from Western Governors University, and numerous technology certifications.

Reflecting on his robust career, Mr. Böckel considers his most notable achievement to be his general ability to work wherever he chooses. Unlike many who may be drawn to companies like Google, which he views primarily as an advertising agency and finds uninteresting, he has consistently enjoyed the freedom to select his work locations. He believes he has successfully shaped his career on his own terms, determining both the places he works and the pace at which he works.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Böckel is aiming for new work challenges and personal development opportunities, possibly by pursuing a law degree or PhD programs. Additionally, he wants to become more involved in his local church community. Together, with his girlfriend Sophie, he plans on buying a house and starting a family.
