Matthew Wildes, Tax Attorney at Wildes at Law, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of law.
A licensed attorney and certified public accountant with a decade of professional experience, Mr. Wildes has successfully run a firm representing Minnesota-based people in disputes with the IRS and the local Department of Revenue as a tax lawyer since 2021. In this capacity, he assists clients with tax-related issues such as audits, tax credits, and tax planning, and manages his team—which includes two enrolled agents and three support staff.
Among his notable achievements, Mr. Wildes has been most proud of his significant success in a case in which he assisted a man involved in substantial gambling transactions totaling millions of dollars; the individual was taxed on winnings he had not genuinely won, leading to a substantial state tax liability of $700,000. He and his team supported the man in entering rehab, relinquishing all financial control to his brothers, and ultimately reaching a settlement of $120,000 with the state.
With a Bachelor of Science in legal studies from Hamline University and a Bachelor of Business Administration, Mr. Wildes pursued a law degree while gaining firsthand experience in the field as a law clerk for Ruvelson & Kautzer Ltd., an accounting clerk at Park Dental, a law clerk at Lurie, LLP, and a student attorney with the Internal Revenue Service in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area. He attained a Doctor of Jurisprudence in tax law and taxation from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, graduating cum laude in 2019 and subsequently being admitted to practice before Minnesota state courts and the U.S. Tax Court. After this accomplishment, he excelled as a tax attorney and a case manager at Tax Tiger for three years before starting his own practice.
As a testament to his quick success, Mr. Wildes was honored with an Up and Coming Attorneys Award from Minnesota Lawyers Magazine in 2023 and listed among the “Best Tax Attorneys in St. Paul Area” on Expertise.com. Dedicated to his work, he’s a longtime member of such organizations as the American Bar Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, American Academy of Attorney-CPAs, and Minnesota Society of CPAs.
Looking ahead, Mr. Wildes has set a goal to expand his firm in the next five to 10 years. He plans to establish a traditional accounting firm that will collaborate with the tax law firm, hire more employees, and serve as many clients as possible.
