Khalid Turk, Chief Healthcare Information Officer at the County of Santa Clara, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the fields of information technology and health care.

Mr. Turk’s gravitation toward the possibilities of technology began at a young age when his brother gifted him a computer, with which he delved into programming and developed an interest in such a career. Born and raised in Pakistan, he pursued his education at a local engineering school. He then subsequently felt compelled to further his knowledge and earned a postgraduate diploma in computer science from Qua-di-Azam University followed by a Master of Business Administration. While building his career in his home country, he sought opportunities in the United States, where, upon being interviewed and selected, he relocated in 1999 to work as a senior software engineer at Centum Inc., an IT company based in California.

After five years, Mr. Turk served as a consultant specialist at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan from 2004 to 2010. He navigated through various roles in his career, including his stints as a program manager at Kettering Health and an Epic implementation consultant and program manager with the Washington Hospital Healthcare System. In 2013, he joined the County of Santa Clara Health Systems as a program manager and has excelled there ever since, advancing to the roles of program director, project portfolio director, and now a chief healthcare info tech officer. In this capacity, he manages the IT operations across hospitals and more than 20 clinics, serving 14,000 customers; manages both Behavioral and Public Health departments; and leads a team of 260 professionals with a budget exceeding $150 million. In addition, from 2010 to 2020, Mr. Turk found success as the owner and consultant of Intelligent LLC, providing consulting services related to IT and healthcare firms.

Among his numerous career achievements, Mr. Turk considers a major highlight as overseeing the construction and launch of a 168-bed state-of-the-art hospital in 2017. He not only managed the building’s construction for this project but ensured its seamless operation and the integration of advanced technology within a tight timeline. Furthermore, he played a key role in rapidly merging two hospitals in 2018, completing the process in just eight months.

In addition, Mr. Turk recently completed a fellowship at Harvard Kennedy School and has been active as an advisory council member for the Harvard Business Review since 2024. In 2023, he authored “The Age of Inclusion: Leading Multigenerational Teams for Success,” a “practical guide to effective intergenerational leadership,” and subsequently began leading speaking engagements and being featured in magazines, including Life Sciences and CIOLook. Attributing his success to his proactive mindset and lifelong passion for learning, he looks toward a future of productivity: he plans on authoring at least two more books and nurturing other leaders.
