Katherine Marie Hyso Wynn, Engagement Accounting Analyst at Alix Partners, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of accounting.

Attributing much of her success to the strong support system provided by her family, Ms. Wynn was required to be self-reliant as her parents worked long hours to support her and her two brothers. Upon graduating from high school, she pursued her interest in science at Michigan State University, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and biological sciences in 2007. She subsequently attained a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the institution—and spent nearly a decade in education as a secondary school teacher at Troy School District and a science teacher at Utica Community Schools, between 2013 and 2022.

Delving into the accounting field—with expertise in financial statements and account management—Ms. Wynn has been active as an engagement accounting analyst at AlixPartners since 2021. In this capacity, she trains new hires, develops a comprehensive training platform, enhances analytical reasoning and data analysis capabilities, and manages client inquiries and invoicing, among numerous responsibilities.

One of Ms. Wynn’s most significant achievements was effectively addressing a longstanding issue with a client from 2022 related to outstanding invoices. She took the initiative to implement interest charges through the SAP accounting system, ensuring precise processing while avoiding tax complications. Within three days, she successfully processed 26 invoices and collaborated with numerous teams to overcome any challenges. Additionally, she’s developing a comprehensive onboarding training notebook and video for new hires in the engagement accounting team. She aims to provide a clear and detailed walkthrough of essential tasks, helping new employees transition smoothly during their first few months.

As a teacher, Ms. Wynn observed many talented students unaware of options beyond traditional degrees. Believing in the importance of outreach to educate students about myriad career paths, she’s created initiatives informing them about potential majors and career opportunities and hopes to empower the next generation to make informed decisions about their futures. Looking toward the future, she strives to be recognized as an expert in her field, consistently delivering effective solutions and enhancing team efficiency; her goal is to grow into a leadership role where she can help others navigate career transitions. She wants to demonstrate that diverse skills, like her background in biology, can lead to unexpected opportunities in fields like consulting.

Outside her primary endeavors, Ms. Wynn helps organize her church’s annual festival and assists with events through MCREST, a homeless shelter in Michigan. She’s also involved in the Military Support Group at Alix Partners, creating Christmas cards and gathering items for service members overseas. She also serves as its neurodiversity leader, advocating for neurodivergent individuals, a role inspired by her brother, who is autistic. Above all, she devotes her time and energy to her daughter, a significant source of motivation for her.
