Sarakat Olorunoje, Senior Customer Success Manager at Amazon, Inc., has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of retail.
Since 2024, Ms. Olorunoje has excelled in this capacity by supporting top sellers on Amazon, helping them grow their businesses by creating strategies and solutions, and serving as a liaison between the company and selling partners. In addition, she ensures her customers’ brand remains valuable in their sector, collaborates with partners, conducts business reviews to ensure their growth, success, and overall health, and ensures profitability and sustainable operations for sellers as they navigate the Amazon platform. Her natural leadership, passion for her clients, and continual expertise in retail and commerce stem from her early drive to be assertive and defy expectations, no matter the odds against her.
Equipped with a bachelor’s in communication studies and a master’s degree in health communication from DePaul University, Ms. Olorunoje initially started her career in health care with the aspiration of becoming a pharmacist. Working at Walgreens in a leadership development program, she advanced to assistant manager. There, she gravitated toward the business side of things and developed a love for problem-solving, balancing customer needs with business goals, and building long-term relationships with customers—many of whom had been coming to the pharmacy for more than 20 years.
She subsequently worked as a senior account specialist with the NorthShore University Health System and a customer engagement manager at Outcome Health. She was hired at the latter health care technology company in 2019 to restore its reputation as it was facing legal battles. She was tasked with reengaging all the customers who had become disengaged, reintroducing the company’s products and assuring their clients that support was still available. While the company sought to regain about 20 percent of those they had lost, through her team’s efforts, they achieved 45 percent. It was the most challenging yet rewarding moment of her career.
Although she had a strong interest in health care, Ms. Oluronoje strived not to limit herself to one industry. She explored retail and commerce, selling on Amazon and sending phones internationally, which fueled her interest in understanding customer behavior, marketing products, and helping businesses grow. Prior to joining Amazon in her current position, she was active as a strategic customer success manager at FourKites, Inc., and as the director of business development and then the director of client solutions for retail, e-commerce, and financial services at Teleperformance. In the midst of her career at this time, she attained an MBA in marketing from Drexel University.
At Amazon, she has enjoyed the variety and complexity of business work, the autonomy it provides, and the opportunity to be creative. Not going with the norm, she brings creative solutions to the table and often breaks the idea of groupthink, which is a challenge considering she is sometimes the youngest or the only woman in the room. She prides herself on being relentless and assertive in believing a solution will work because she always strives to have the data to back things up.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Oluronoje sees herself growing in her career and becoming a recognized leader in her field. In the next 10 years, she sees herself as an entrepreneur and tech founder, developing her own business. A dedicated member of Africans in Tech, and the Tech Insiders Community, her tech venture is currently in its early stages as she is gathering data and refining her idea to ensure its viability before pitching it in the near future.
