Jhoanny “JB” Baez, Vice President at Bank of America Corporation, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of financial services.

Ms. Baez gravitated toward her profession during her formative years in her home country of Dominican Republic, growing up in a family with diverse financial circumstances: some members were in stable financial positions, while others were in very low-income situations. She has held her grandmother in the highest regard, as her grandmother rose every morning at 5 a.m. to prepare breakfast for the family before they walked 15 to 20 miles to school in their rural area. Her grandmother taught her that, “regardless of one’s circumstances, it is possible to flourish.” She has carried these words with her ever since.

Ms. Baez ultimately earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and administration from O&M College, graduating cum laude in 2005. In the subsequent five years, she utilized her accrued expertise as a bookkeeper and accountant before immigrating to the United States in 2010. Upon her arrival, she faced challenges learning English, but found her journey rewarding.

For a year, Ms. Baez worked temporarily at Western Union, supporting the Latino community by assisting with money transfers and wire services to family members in other countries. The role provided her the opportunity to become more engaged in the community and understand the diversity and culture of Latino populations across the Caribbean, South America, and Central America. She identified areas of struggle within the community and became inspired to build her career in banking and finance to provide resources and support to business owners.

In 2011, Ms. Baez joined Bank of America in a senior banking role while simultaneously attending school to improve her English language skills, working part-time in the morning and attending classes in the afternoon for an hourly wage of $12. She then advanced to the roles of assistant vice president and business banking relationship manager between 2019 and 2026 and most recently assumed her current position. She has taken great pride in demonstrating that, regardless of background, ethnicity, accent, or educational origin, success is possible through hard work, faith, and determination. Being Latina with a strong accent, she has overcome perceptions and obstacles in her field to ascend to her role as vice president, managing relationships with high net-worth business clients with revenues of $15 million and above, as well as overseeing wealth management.

Looking ahead, Ms. Baez strives to continue building her career at Bank of America, as she feels deeply satisfied and does not wish to pursue other available positions. She plans to continue growing and being recognized for her daily work while expanding her involvement in the community. In addition to her primary banking responsibilities, she strives to develop her e-commerce business, The Power of Dreams LLC, which she registered in 2025 and is preparing to launch with her first inventory purchase.

In addition, Ms. Baez operated Palo Drink Groceries Inc., a bodega in New York and New Jersey, during the pandemic, which she ultimately sold in 2022. During this time, she gained full custody of her children, working tirelessly ever since to provide support without additional help.
