Kalyani Natu, Electrical Designer IV at IMEG Consultants Corp, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of engineering.

Attributing her success to her parents’ strong support, Ms. Natu gravitated toward her career through her father, a mechanical engineer whose work always fascinated her. From a young age, growing up in India, she was confident about following in his footsteps. Her specific interests within the field developed while in high school, where she became increasingly intrigued by how things worked and began to understand the logic behind various systems.

This passion led Ms. Natu to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Cummins College of Engineering for Women in 2014. After that, she gained work experience as an intern before relocating to the United States; here, she bolstered her credentials with a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University, where she also served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Amid her studies, she also dedicated a year to the R. Russell Rhinehart Company as a voluntary research assistant.

From 2018 to 2022, Ms. Natu established herself as an accomplished project engineer at B.L. Technology Inc., a company comprising 40 dedicated staff members. In her role, she immersed herself in the intricacies of team dynamics, stakeholder engagement, and resource allocation, all of which were vital to the success of her numerous projects. She also proactively pursued project management training, which equipped her with the tools to navigate these complexities effectively. This commitment and insight didn’t go unnoticed, leading to her rapid advancement. As a testament to her achievement, she earned Employee of the Year for 2020-2021.

Since 2022, Ms. Natu has excelled as an Electrical Designer IV at IMEG Consultants Corp, based in San Francisco. There, she works on power, lighting, and fire alarm electrical designs for buildings in higher education. She designs portions of the projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG Consultants Corp standards—she researches resources for commercially available equipment and assists with client retaliations and project design notebooks. In addition to reviewing design methods, procedures, and changes in scope and client correspondence with the lead engineer, she conducts periodic job site observations.

Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. Natu remains dedicated to her industry and alma mater through memberships with the International Society of Automation, Oklahoma State University Automation Society, and the Indian Students Association at Oklahoma State University. Always looking out for the younger generation as well, she advised those entering the field to be confident and assertive, commanding the respect they deserve. She also encourages them “not to hesitate or second-guess their decisions, as these decisions are often correct.”
