Donita McCants, DVM, Owner and Veterinarian at Dr. Donita’s Veterinary Concierge Services, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of veterinary services.

A dedicated and accomplished professional in the veterinary industry, Dr. McCants has excelled as a freelance veterinarian since 2017 and as the owner of Dr. Donita’s Veterinary Concierge Services, a full-service animal hospital, since 2021. As a small animal general practitioner, she provides comprehensive services to her patients and clients, from soft tissue surgery to dermatological and behavioral needs and beyond. As an extension of her services, she established a mobile clinic—beginning with a modest selection of supplies in her SUV, she upgraded to a sprinter van in 2022, through which she provides spays, neuters, general cleanings, mass removals, bloodwork, and x-rays. In addition to her primary responsibilities, she takes pride in inspiring future professionals as a mentor to pre-vet students and has dedicated her time to helping the homeless community and their pets through the Christian Service Center by offering free exams and vaccines.

Inspired by her mother, who instilled in her the importance of hard work and resilience, Dr. McCants prepared for her career by earning a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University. In the midst of her studies at the latter institution, she earned a veterinary research scholarship from the Morris Animal Foundation and earned a Simmons Business Aptitude Award from the Simmons Education Fund—setting her on the path toward success in the field. Upon graduating, she worked for three years as an associate veterinarian at Banfield Pet Hospital before serving as an intern at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists for a year. She began as an associate veterinarian at Luv N Care Animal Hospital and then transitioned to a co-owner. Throughout her career, she has maintained affiliations with the American Veterinary Medical Association and North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.

As a further testament to her impact on her field, Dr. McCants has been active as a speaker and contributor with DVM360, a widely recognized publication within the veterinary community. She was especially honored to speak at one of the organization’s conferences in Charlotte, North Carolina in March 2023, where she delivered a presentation on achieving a better quality of life while managing a veterinary business. She has also authored numerous articles for the publication over the last year, through which she has shared insights into her own practice and experience as a business owner and writes on balancing personal and professional life.

Looking toward the future, Dr. McCants wants to expand her mobile clinic, whose current slogan is “First class doorstep pet care,” with the goal of having both a van and a brick-and-mortar location. She also strives to assist other veterinarians while she runs the clinic.
