Lauri Kallio, Author, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of writing.

Mr. Kallio became involved in his profession when he was in high school. His father’s boss needed a good writer to help with managing the complaints of a road commission project and heard that Mr. Kallio could fill that spot. He was tasked with writing a letter on the case and it was published in the Upper Peninsula Michigan Newspaper and The Mining Journal in Michigan. Since then, he has provided his skills and expertise as a writer in various capacities. In the decades since, he has written thousands of letters to the editor, as well as articles and newsletters for Peace Action. He published a book about his role as a confession analyst during the William George Heirens case. Since 2011, he has maintained a blog on WordPress.

In addition to his work as a writer, Mr. Kallio was an educator in Michigan and Alaska for five years. He served as a claims authorizer and technical assistant for the Social Security Administration for 21 years. In 1990, he retired from his work here to devote his time to writing. Furthermore, Mr. Kallio is supported by his academic pursuits. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan. Additionally, he took coursework at DePaul University, Roosevelt University and Northern Michigan University.

Mr. Kallio has received accolades in his career such as the Grassroots Activist of the Year from Peace Action in 1995, and several awards from the Social Security Administration. On a civic level, he has dedicated his time to the National Board of Peace Action, the Sierra Club, Illinois Peace Action, and SANE/Freeze Anti-Nuclear Organization. Furthermore, he was elected to his village board for a two-year term, and served on a number of local committees, as well as being the president of University Park’s Little League Team, the Football Association, and PTO.
