Yolanda E. Brown, Case Management Specialist at Salvation Army, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contribution and achievements in the field of social work.
Through her faith and genuine compassion and love for helping people, Ms. Brown has built an accomplished career on giving back and ensuring that individuals and families have housing access and care. In her role as a case management specialist at the Salvation Army in Houston, where she has excelled since 2016, she serves the homeless population and those in need of food and clothing, all the while working with the city as well as organizations like the Houston Homeless Coalition, Homeless Outreach Team, and food banks.
Feeling as though she is doing the work she was always meant for, Ms. Brown feels a sense of fulfillment and obligation in reaching her current heights and responsibilities after overcoming many hardships in life, including being homeless herself. She was raised by a single parent who endured many sacrifices to provide for her and her two brothers and later struggled with poverty. She did, however, find solace in religion and eventually felt God transform her life to where she is now—guided by a love for the ministry of health, she wanted to provide the help she rarely received from others during her lowest point. With an Associate in Applied Science in music business performance from McLennan Community College, she previously held jobs as a newspaper delivery person for two years, a janitor and forklift driver for Excel USA for five years, and a case manager at Solide Recovery Center for five years.
As a testament to her success in her field, Ms. Brown has been a multiple-time Employee of the Month and has received numerous recognition for her services in the community at the Salvation Army. In regards to the future, she sees herself transitioning to the Salvation Army Houston Area Command, where she would be given the freedom to pursue other ventures and be more involved in the organization’s outreach services. No matter where she winds up, Ms. Brown is dedicated to following God’s lead and helping people who need it most.
