Shannan Michelle Estes, Accounting Manager at SETEX Construction Corp., has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of accounting.
Fueled by a passion for her work, a love of learning, and an ability to face challenges head-on, Mrs. Estes has built an accomplished career in accounting management, with particular success in the construction industry. Since 2016, she has excelled in her role at SETEX Construction Corp., a full-service general contractor and construction manager providing services in Texas and Louisiana; in this capacity, she balances several responsibilities, including accounts receivable, supervising a team for accounts payable, serving as the office manager, and handling annual and quarterly financial statements for the Certified Public Accountant. In the midst of her position, she has been dedicated to expanding her skills by earning certifications in sales and use tax, payroll law, data-driven finance leadership, accounting and reporting, management and leadership skills for new managers, and human resources, among other fields. Outside of her primary endeavors, she is a member of the Houston Construction Financial Management Association.
Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Estes launched her career as a bookkeeper for FASTSIGNS in 2011. After five years, she served as the company’s full-charge bookkeeper from 2016 to 2019. She prepared for her professional path by attending the University of Phoenix, where she obtained an Associate in Arts in accounting and finance in 2004 and a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and law enforcement administration in 2007. She took additional accounting courses at Lone Star University and just recently applied to pursue graduate school at Syracuse University, where she aims to earn a Master of Science in accounting.
Looking toward the future, Mrs. Estes hopes to become a Certified Public Accountant and expand her education even more by working on a Master of Business Administration. She would also like to become the chief financial officer of her current company or branch out and start her own accounting firm. Upon reflection of her life and career, she is incredibly proud to have achieved so much early on in her career as a single mother. Today, she is happily married, with one child and three stepchildren, to an amazing and supportive husband. To her, it’s important for both young women and men to see strong female role models in the workplace.
