Ryan Gonzalez, State Representative at Colorado General Assembly 50th District, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of public service.
Wielding a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Northern Colorado in 2018, Mr. Gonzalez launched his career as a personal banker at the First National Bank of Omaha and subsequently served in the same capacity at Wells Fargo. From 2022 to 2024, he was active as a technician in the J.M. Smucker Co. before shifting his focus toward politics.
Recognizing the increasing division in society, with disagreements breaking apart friendships and families, especially in tough times, Mr. Gonzalez strived to make a significant impact as a good leader in his community. Believing people have become frustrated with the government—and discouraged by leaders who argue, blame others, and name-call—he channeled his understanding of the difficulties faced by working-class people, such as living paycheck to paycheck, to get involved in public service.
In 2024, Mr. Gonzalez was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives for the 50th District, defeating an incumbent who held their seat for nearly 25 years after raising only $40,000 in his campaign compared to his opponent’s $144,000. However, despite the odds against him, he worked hard and won. In his elected position, he meets with stakeholders; attends meetings with nonprofits and businesses; travels across the state for legislative purposes; and collaborates with committees on various issues. As a testament to his dedication, he won several awards in 2025 for his legislative work, including recognitions by Healthier Colorado for helping people in underserved communities gain better access to health care and by the Colorado Civil Justice League for promoting fairness in the legal system. Additionally, he attained an award from the American Institute of Architects for this efforts in reforming construction defects and promoting affordable housing in Colorado.
Attributing his success to strong family values and a deep commitment to creating a safe and thriving community, Mr. Gonzalez believes that by working hard, striving for opportunities, and taking action, individuals can overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Gonzalez has been active as a committee member with SAVE, a nonprofit working to prevent suicide through education, since 2012; judge of debate and forensics events across high schools since 2013; and a volunteer with the Larimer County Republican Party since 2018.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Gonzalez intends to serve his full eight-year term due to the state’s term limits and then potentially seek a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Focusing on the present, however, he plans to create practical policies for Colorado with the goal of making living more affordable, especially for the middle and working classes. He also aims to increase the supply of affordable housing by fixing issues related to construction defects, push for the use of nuclear energy—to provide clean energy and help lower energy costs for everyone—and implement a fairer tax system. Mr. Gonzalez has always been, and strives to continue to be, committed to representing his constituents, listening to their concerns, and fighting for their interests in the legislature.
