Rebecca Feilmann, Head of School at Colorado Early Colleges Windsor, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for her contributions and achievements in the field of education.

An accomplished academic leader, coach, and mentor with nearly a decade of experience in secondary and post-secondary education—and accrued expertise in curriculum development—Ms. Feilmann has excelled in her role as Head of School since 2024. She initially joined Colorado Early Colleges Windsor, a tuition-free public charter school, four years prior as an English Language Arts teacher for grades six through 12, playing a crucial role in developing its reading and writing program. She subsequently advanced to Director of Instruction, overseeing instructional coaching, mentoring, and professional development. She then took on more responsibility and oversight as Dean of Academics.

As dean, she fostered the potential of those who required additional support—working closely with classroom teachers, interventionists, and the curriculum development team—as well as a dedication to performance data analysis each year. The analysis ultimately revealed that the school’s exceptional students—comprising neurodivergent learners, those enrolled in Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP), students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP), minority students, and English language learners—were not progressing at the same rate as their peers. Recognizing a need for intervention, she took proactive steps to address this disparity, aiming to ensure equal opportunities for all students. She collaborated with an external expert specializing in neurodivergence in the classroom to reframe teaching and learning methodologies through inclusive practices, emphasizing the importance of creating authentic assessments that allowed students to explore and grow with their individual strengths.

This ultimately resulted in a School of Distinction award through its charter authorizer, highlighting the school’s achievements not only in academic performance but also in financial and organizational areas. In addition, she herself was recognized by Influential Women for a presentation she gave at the Colorado League of Charter Schools Conference, where she shared valuable data on the professional development initiatives she had implemented.

In her current capacity, Ms. Feilmann’s overall mission is to promote a positive culture dedicated to student success. She supports staff and students in various capacities to ensure academic and personal growth, conducts classroom walkthroughs and observations to provide feedback and coaching to teachers, mentors students on behavior, consequences, and effective communication, and guides secondary students or middle and high school students in navigating social and academic challenges. In addition, she manages onsite operational tasks, including student nutrition and transportation, marketing, and enrollment initiatives, safety initiatives, and finance.

Ms. Feilmann attributes her success in academia to resilience, persistence, and a deep understanding of her purpose. She takes great pride in seeing the results of her work every day through significant impact on her students and teachers, which has always made any challenges worthwhile. She prepared for her professional path at the University of Northern Colorado, where she attained degrees in English language and literature, leading to work as a composition instructor and research assistant at the institution. Prior to Colorado Early Colleges Windsor, she was active as the director of Tutoring Excellence in Northern Colorado, where she focused on addressing students’ learning gaps through targeted tutoring, laying a foundation for her later work.

Looking ahead, Ms. Feilmann hopes to open her own charter school that emphasizes the principles of universal design for learning. Her vision is to create an includive environment where all students can discover, access, and thrive as they pursue their current educational goals and post-secondary aspirations.
