However, when the COVID pandemic struck, her journey became increasingly challenging, forcing her to confront tough realities.
In 2021, Ms. Gonzalez shared her struggles with her parents. Her father, a dedicated salesman with strong business acumen, discovered an opportunity for her as an admissions counselor and recruiter at USC Upstate; recognizing her potential, he guided her in applying for the position. After successfully navigating the application process through two interviews, she landed the role, utilizing her natural talents to inspire and prepare students for their future. After a year, she seized the opportunity to advance to her current position, through which she leads teams, drives enrollment growth, and builds relationships with students and parents.
She’s felt the most pride in the feedback she receives from students, many of whom have expressed gratitude after guiding them through the enrollment process—helping them apply and gather all necessary documents—and inspiring them to persevere by providing a safe space. For her, any recognition and awards hold little significance compared to her impact on their sense of belonging.
In addition to her primary endeavors, Ms. Gonzalez was featured in study.com in 2021 to offer advice for its article “How to Apply to College – The Ultimate Guide.” Looking ahead, she aspires to continue her career in higher education, aiming to have a meaningful impact on students’ lives. Conversely, if she ever steps away from her role, she would be interested in working in a high school guidance office, where she could assist students and their families in preparing for the transition to college.
