Ramadan Abouomar, Scientist at Scops Coating Technologies, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of science.
Dr. Abouomar’s relentless drive, which has pervaded his accomplished career, was forged at a young age. His mother used to tell her children, “If you can eat, you can do everything. Just be persistent and patient. Don’t be in a rush.” He took this advice to heart and has lived it out ever since. Struggling in school up until the fourth grade, he gravitated toward science and doing experiments, the only thing he later said “that made sense to him.”
Guided by a curiosity about the world and a never-give-up perseverance, he gained work experience in the science field while in his home country of Egypt, as a member of the Central Analysis Unit, and as an assistant researcher with the Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute for several years. Not long after earning a master’s degree in organic chemistry from Monofiya University, he relocated to the United States, where he attended the University of Akron in Ohio. There, he served as a graduate research assistant while pursuing a PhD in polymer science, which he attained in 2019.
Since 2019, Dr. Abouomar has been active as a postdoctoral research associate at Michigan State University, during which time he has also served a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Delaware. He additionally lends his expertise to the EPRI as a researcher and has found success as a partner with the Chitosan Egypt Company, a co-founder of Ropa-Tech Startup, and a polymer scientist with SCOPS Coating Technologies—wielding leadership skills in managing labs, mentoring students, and training technicians. He has co-authored several articles for major scientific publications as well as papers and presentations; he currently holds two patents in the area of polymers, particularly silicones and organic silica, preparation, functionalization, and characterizations.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Abouomar sees himself leading a group of scientists in developing more environmentally friendly products, training people who want to get into science and inspiring them to do so, and eventually watching his products be available in the market.
