Rachel L. Gorin, Housing Specialist at St. Patrick Center, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of social work.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, in a loving and supportive family, Ms. Gorin always wanted to help people for a living—but she didn’t know exactly how she wanted to do so. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Maryville University St. Louis, where she enrolled in numerous introductory courses and pursued different paths in search of something that spoke to her. When she took an Introduction to Social Work class, she discovered a field she was extremely passionate about; she remembered feeling “that it was the right direction” for her. Amid her studies, she gained experience as a teacher assistant at Rose Acres Elementary School, an intern for a nonprofit community planning and development organization, and a writing tutor at the college.

Equipped with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, and a minor in sociology, Ms. Gorin embarked on her professional path—working as an intern at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri in 2015 before being active as a social work intern at Council Bluffs Community School District from 2017 to 2018. At Council Bluffs, she worked predominantly in its two high schools, aiding the in-school therapist and helping students one-on-one. She went on to teach and serve as a support staff member at Completely KIDS, leading a group of students through homework and other educational and recreational activities after school. From 2020 to 2021, she accrued more social work experience as an intern at Catholic Charities Diocese of Des Moines, co-facilitating educational and psychoeducational classes for clients and holding weekly individual goal meetings with residents—building her expertise in case management.

After obtaining a Master of Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2021, Ms. Gorin joined St. Patrick Center—a nonprofit aimed at combatting homelessness in St. Louis and surrounding areas by assisting thousands of individuals and families annually; she excels as a housing specialist and a case manager. As a testament to her achievements and impact in her role, the nonprofit recognized her as Employee of the Month in 2022 and she advanced to the role of Housing Case Manager in 2023. A licensed master social worker, certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and a licensed master social worker by the Committee for Social Workers, she strives to earn a clinical social worker license in the future.
