Mona Ahmad, DDS, Dentist at Amazing Dental, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of health care.
Since 2019, Dr. Ahmad has been excelling in her dream role as a general dentist at a Michigan-based practice whose mission is to provide its patients with healthy and beautiful smiles. All her life, she has wanted to follow in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Naseer Ahmad, a physician, and pursue a career in dentistry.
The daughter of immigrants from Pakistan, Dr. Ahmad knew that oral hygiene and care were not emphasized in her parents’ country while they were growing up. However, it became one for her and her siblings in the United States. In visiting Pakistan throughout her youth, she saw firsthand how backward and counterintuitive many of the dental practices in the country were—such as pulling canine teeth, which are among the most important in the mouth. She eventually became inspired to educate her community and other communities made up of ethnic populations that suffer health-wise due to not knowing the importance of oral care. In addition, her sister and a close friend became dentists—which helped to steer her in that direction. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Michigan, she went to the School of Dentistry at the University of Detroit Mercy, where she attained a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2019.
Seeing dentistry as an honorable profession, through which she finds happiness in making a difference in people’s lives, Dr. Ahmad’s services encompass extractions, surgery, root canals, fillings, crowns, bridges, pediatric dentistry, implants, facial aesthetics, and pain management. When she isn’t helping patients at Amazing Dental, she offers her expertise as a volunteer dentist at a free clinic in the city of Detroit. During the COVID-19 pandemic, by which point she hadn’t been working as a professional dentist very long, the practice continued its operation and never closed—taking in patients from across various states, many of whom were experiencing immense stress in quarantine, which manifested in their oral health. Because the patients were coming in from great distances and had no other available dental options, Dr. Ahmad felt heavy responsibility and the experience proved to be the most rewarding of her professional life.
Dr. Ahmad is committed to her field, serving as a member of the Michigan Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Looking toward the future, she aims to develop her skill set further and one day both have a dental practice of her own and volunteer at a dental school in order to mentor the next generation. In her free time, Dr. Ahmad most enjoys spending time with her daughter, Zainab.
