Kristan McIntyre, Program Manager at Students of Service, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of philanthropy.
A passionate and impactful educator and leader, Ms. McIntyre helps develop young, bright middle school and high school students through guidance to discover and achieve their aspirations in life. At San Antonio-based Students of Service, where she’s excelled as a program manager in 2024, she offers such programs as the Teen Medical Academy, which introduces students to various health care career paths and the Exploring Justice Program, which provides exposure to criminal justice, legal fields, and the support system. Additionally, she’s involved in the application process, grant requirements, and accessibility for program funding, establishing a three-tier financial aid system that offers partial to full scholarships, especially targeting marginalized students to ensure access and equity.
Since becoming involved at SOS, Ms. McIntyre’s program work has had a significant impact on more than 300 students. In addition to reaching these students directly, she has also influenced those who expressed interest in her programs but were not accepted by ensuring they have access to her resources and connects them with additional opportunities. The programs also help students gain a global perspective to solve local programs, combining local community service with informed international experiences. Furthering her reach in this position, she speaks English, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Prior to this role, she had already built an impressive career in nonprofit work, starting as an outreach coordinator for the Texas Impact Foundation from 2015 to 2016 and a volunteer coordinator for the San Antonio Tricentennial Celebration Commission from 2017 to 2018. Continuing her impact for the city of San Antonio, she served as an administrative assistant and volunteer coordinator from 2018 to 2023 and a paralegal – damages coordinator for George Salinas Injury Lawyers.
Ms. McIntyre’s career aspirations began in middle school when she was 11 years old, as her mother, a CPA for Hermes Music in the Valley region, participated in a company holiday toy drive. As part of the firm’s community service initiative, they collected toys and delivered them to Reynoda San Juanitas, a border town near Mexico. Her mother encouraged Mc. McIntyrer and her sister to join, and the experience made a deep impact on her—seeing families living in cardboard boxes and children without homes made her realize her own privilege and the importance of giving back. From a young age, she always helped friends and classmates, but this moment marked a turning point where she felt inspired to pursue something greater than herself. She ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations and a Master of Arts in international relations and affairs from St. Mary’s University.
Looking toward the future, Ms. McIntyre hopes to expand her impact further. She’s considering partnering with various agencies to either launch her own nonprofit or consult for existing organizations to help connect students, including current university students exploring different career paths. Additionally, she wants to extend her efforts into vocational schools. Ms. McIntyre believes more opportunities should be available for students because, while academics are essential, the motivational aspect is often lacking. She feels her programs can fill this gap by providing hands-on experience through experiential learning, connecting students with mentors, organizing site visits, and maximizing available resources.
Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. McIntyre frequently donates to Goodwill and Dress for Success. She enjoys reading and going on long nature walks with her dogs.
