Dr. Keeyan Lea Davis, Manager of Oncology and Biotech Infusion Pharmacy Services at the University of Chicago Medicine, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of pharmacology.
Since she was in seventh grade, Dr. Davis has been genuinely passionate about becoming a pharmacist. Always extremely driven, dedicated, and hard on herself when it comes to academics and work, feeling as though “everything she touches needs to be gold,” she has consistently relied heavily on her mother for help, advice, and general support. Her mother, to whom she attributes much of her success, has helped her to understand that she is still human and perfectionism isn’t the best or healthiest trait to possess. While in high school, she was involved in a related program that directly led to her being accepted into pharmacy school.
After six years of extensive study and training, Dr. Davis ultimately earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2019; she also received the Bowl of Hygeia Award, the highest honor granted by a pharmacy institution, as a result of a vote by her colleagues and professors. Equipped with her degree, she gained firsthand experience in the field through residencies in PGY-1 pharmacy at her alma mater from 2019 to 2020 and then in PGY-2 specialty pharmacy administration and leadership at the University of Chicago Medicine from 2020 to 2021. Following these appointments, she advanced to more permanent positions at the University of Chicago Medicine, serving as a clinical pharmacy specialist in 2021, and becoming the manager of oncology and biotech infusion pharmacy services—a role in which she is responsible for outpatient infusion pharmacy, ambulatory care, and staff management.
In addition to her primary endeavors, Dr. Davis enjoys visiting community members in barbershops and beauty salons to talk about her services and provide answers to their questions about medication. She is also a proud active member of numerous professional organizations pertaining to her industry, including the National Pharmacy Association, American Pharmacists Association, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists. Within the next five to 10 years, she hopes to grow from where she currently is and pursue more opportunities, such as becoming the director or assistant director of a new department.
