Kaylon DeJuan Walton, Graphic Designer at Lockton Dunning Benefits, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of media.
Fueled by the support he has received from his family and friends, Mr. Walton has found much professional success as a hard-working, detail-oriented creative artist since 2019. He gravitated toward the arts at a young age, drawing a lot as a child and then developing a passion for music while in high school. While a student at Baylor University, his focus was on filmmaking, but he also picked up expertise in computer science and digital media. Over the course of his studies, he gained firsthand experience in the processes of principle photography and postproduction—and served as an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In addition, he worked as a package handler for FedEx and as a student worker in the university’s East Village Dining Hall for more than a year.
Mr. Walton graduated from the institution with a bachelor’s degree in cinematography and film production in 2018. Soon afterward, he launched his career as a graphics operator and multimedia designer for Univision Communications, Inc. in Dallas, Texas, where he excelled up until February 2022. During his time at the company, he created full-screen graphics for newscasts and social media. He helped to develop and produce promotional content for news segments, sports airings, and commercials for TV, radio, digital, and local events—all in a different language and alongside award-winning directors, producers, and journalists. He sharpened his abilities as an editor—of video, graphics, and audio—and even wrote scripts and did camera work both in-studio and out in the field. As a testament to his hard work and talent, he was recognized with the Lone Star Emmy Award for Graphic Artist, a regional Emmy for the state of Texas, by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2021—which he considers the highlight of his career. Also that year, he became a certified Ross Automation Production Control Operator.
Since March 2022, he has served as a graphic designer at Lockton Dunning Benefits, an insurance agency for which he helps to create, strengthen, and manage the organization’s website and also develop packages and different booklets for companies all across the country. As a professional, he strives to complete any and all assignments to the highest standard, meeting deadlines and working well with others in the process. Outside of his primary multimedia roles, he takes great pride in his volunteer work at North Texas Food Bank. “Be more confident in your own abilities,” he advised those aspiring to work in his industry. “Try not to compare yourself to others so much…[and] learn to be OK with asking for help.” Looking ahead to five years from now, Mr. Walton aspires to advance in his career and be promoted to a higher position at the company.
