Jon E. Gaskins, Criminal Investigator at the District Attorney’s Office, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of law enforcement.
Wielding a deep-rooted connection to his profession, Mr. Gaskins grew up in a law enforcement family with his father serving as a state trooper in Virginia. The background fostered a strong passion for helping others and serving justice, leading to a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and police science from Colorado Technical University—followed by work at the Durango Police Department and years as an officer and training instructor with the U.S. Pentagon Police.
Further bolstering education with a master’s in information technology from the institution in 2008, Mr. Gaskins volunteered as a Law Enforcement Driving Instructor with Adams County Sheriff’s Academy from 2012 to 2021 and an acting marshal and instructor with the Georgetown Police Department in Colorado from 2015 to 2024. As a testament to his hard work and dedication, he was nominated for Office of the Year within the Georgetown Police in 2016 and was recognized with a Medal of Valor and a Superior Service Award in 2017 and 2018, respectively. He is now active as a criminal investigator within the District Attorney’s Office in Georgetown and as a driving instructor and subject matter expert committee member—through which he handles administrative duties, details police reports, collects physical evidence, apprehends suspects, and investigates any major incidents, often working several hours beyond the average 40-hour week.
In addition to his primary work, he published his novel “With Full Intent” in April 2024, a historical crime fiction exploring a quadruple homicide based on stories his grandparents often shared about their experiences in Southside, Virginia, in the 1930s. Drawing inspiration from these conversations, he fictionalized the events and crafted an engaging book over the course of four years. He’d previously written articles for the Police1 publication and Flight Training Magazine—where he utilized his experience as a private pilot.
Looking ahead, Mr. Gaskins strives to write another book and transition into a new area of profession, allowing him more flexibility to work from home.
