Jeremy A. Poynter, Esq., Partner at Holland & Knight LLP, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of law.

Growing up in a small town in Tennessee, Mr. Poynter was raised by parents who didn’t attend and became exposed to various professional careers through television. He gravitated toward the idea of becoming a lawyer by watching legal dramas and films that depicted litigators in the courtroom. He first earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Middle Tennessee State University in 2012 and followed it with a JD in law from the Knoxville College of Law at the University of Tennessee in 2015. It was while in law school, though, that he discovered he didn’t enjoy practicing as a litigator and instead found himself drawn to the field of transactional law, which he has since pursued.

Starting off as a legal intern at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Mr. Poynter gained additional experience as a summer associate at Waller Lansden Dortch and Davis, the firm he went on to join full-time as a healthcare associate from 2015 to 2022 before becoming a healthcare partner there. Since 2023, he has excelled as a healthcare regulatory partner at Holland & Knight LLP, where he focuses his practice on healthcare regulatory compliance and operations. His responsibilities include advising and counseling hospital properties, healthcare systems, surgery centers, and other facilities on regulatory and operational issues in day-to-day operations—as well as assisting with the change of ownership filings and license applications required in healthcare mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures. At Holland & Knight, his practices include Behavioral Health, Dental Support Organizations, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Healthcare Investors and Lenders, Outpatient and Ambulatory Services, and Healthcare Regulatory Compliance. As a testament to his success and dedication, he was recognized among “Ones to Watch” in Health Care Law by The Best Lawyers in America guide for 2021-2024 and holds memberships with

Mr. Poynter attributes his success to having a strong work support system and several vital resources. Having grown up in a non-college-educated family, he’s extremely proud of graduating college, obtaining a professional degree, and becoming a partner at his firm after nearly eight years of practice. Looking toward the future, Mr. Poynter wants to continue his success as a partner at the firm.
