On a daily basis, Ms. Russell enjoys making other’s lives better and considers her work to be rewarding. Helping adolescents, adults and seniors allows her to find solutions for people in all stages of life. Her responsibilities include working with families and children with developmental disabilities, writing support plans, gathering information about the children and discharge planning for rehab and nursing facility patients. She started on her path after earning a degree in social work from the Missouri State University in 2009. She started as a social worker at Cox South Hospital in 2019 and brought to this position her prior experience after working as a student coordinator for Abilities First, foster care case management and as a family advocate for Head Start Facility.
Ms. Russell also finds meaning through her philanthropic endeavors. She teaches third and fourth-grade students for the Sunday school at her local church, in addition to volunteering at its food pantry. She has been recognized for her work with a Citizenship Award from the American Diabetes Association. She was fourteen when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes during her stay at a children’s hospital. It was during that time she met with a social worker who took care of everything, which inspired Ms. Russell to pursue the field herself. Ms. Russell knows how much patients have to worry about, especially with long-term diagnoses, and endeavors to alleviate some of the difficulties they and their families may face.
