Andrea Alvarenga, Licensed Vocational Nurse at San Bernardino Medical Group, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the fields of medicine and health care.
Motivated by a longtime passion for taking care of others, Ms. Alvarenga gravitated toward her profession at a young age through her grandmother—who suffered two strokes—and the health care providers who served as kind, compassionate, and beneficial figures for her up until her death. She has always worn her heart on her sleeve and prioritized others, and so a career in the medical field, nursing in particular, was a natural decision.
Launching her career as a medical assistant within the gastrointestinal field for 10 years, Ms. Alvarenga then found success in public relations for The Medical Group before becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse at San Bernardino Medical Group. As opposed to a physician assistant, she, in her role as a vocational nurse, focuses more on bedside care and management rather than providing treatment for patients. Primarily involved with urgent care and emergency care situations, her several responsibilities include checking the patient’s rooms; handling quality control checks for machines, such as the cardiac monitor machine; taking vital signs of patients and getting them ready for doctors’ rounds; conducting tests; and carrying out doctors’ orders, which may encompass everything from catheterization to EKGs. As a testament to her dedication and accomplishments in the field, she was recognized by San Bernardino Medical Group with an Employer of the Year Award in 2020—which she considers to be the highlight of her career thus far—and honored as “Hero of 2020” by Inland Empire Magazine. She has previously received a Leadership Award, a Perfect Attendance Award, and an Employer of the Quarter Award.
Outside of her main endeavors, Ms. Alvarenga has been active as a blood donor for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a volunteer for a diabetes walk, a volunteer medical assistant at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and a devoted member of the Nurses Service Organization. Currently pursuing a license to become a Registered Nurse, she also strives to obtain a Bachelor of Science in nursing in order to grow professionally.
