Kyle Corwin, Emergency Management Specialist for FEMA, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of emergency relief and public service.
For Mr. Corwin, the decision to go into emergency management came during a time when he was working in merchandising stocking shelves. He realized the importance of having access to basic goods and needs during a time of need and while at Concordia University, he came at a crossroads between healthcare administration and emergency management homeland security. He decided to pursue emergency management, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in emergency management from Concordia University in 2016 and a Master of Arts in management homeland security from Arizona State University in 2017. Since 2017, Mr. Corwin has utilized his skills and expertise as an emergency management specialist with the IA Cadre Reservist of FEMA. In this role, he works with Individuals, households, and public entities on disaster recovery. He has additionally served as a coach and mentor for future disaster responders. During his career with FEMA, he has received several accolades.
Mr. Corwin’s line of work has become more interesting during the COVID-19 pandemic. With COVID-19, FEMA has undergone a big change from working in the field to manning the frontlines from the safety of their own homes. It has been a big adjustment on his team especially as he was working on relief work from a flood in Virginia, while other members of his team were in Pennsylvania. In five years, Mr. Corwin wants to be involved in a doctoral program, expand his network, have a positive influence in his community. He has shown great growth by adapting to the current pandemic and utilizing technologies that he would like to eventually teach others.
