Jared W. Floyd, Project Engineer Manager at Amentum Services, Inc., has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of engineering services.
Driven by his lifelong perseverance and work ethic, Mr. Floyd grew up in North Carolina, where he was largely inspired by his father, Howard, a machinist who taught him many skills that would inform his career. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and spent nine years in service, where he deepened his interest in manufacturing and materials. He advanced from an airframe structural maintainer—repairing, fabricating, and painting numerous models of aircraft and honing his engineering skills—to the rank of staff sergeant between 2005 and 2014. During this time, he earned meritorious awards and an Air Force Achievement Medal.
Mr. Floyd subsequently launched his career as an automated surface grinder operator at American EDM and Tool before becoming a machine operator at Carter Machine and security officer at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He strived then strived to bolster his credentials and return to education, with the goal of securing a position at NASA or a similar organization making breakthroughs in advanced manufacturing. While a student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, he was active as an undergraduate researcher in his field for several years up until he graduated, with a Bachelor of Science in materials science and engineering, in 2020.
He joined Amentum, a government contractor that is involved in environmental cleanup, specifically the deactivation and demolition of nuclear facilities around the Department of Energy complex. While it was an unexpected opportunity, he found he enjoyed the work and aligned with the mission of cleaning up hazardous materials and strong focus on safety.
Joining as a field engineer in 2023, Mr. Floyd has excelled, since 2025, as project engineer. In this capacity, he leads several projects and serves as the primary point of contact for technical input, scheduling project activities and technical resources, performing technical work, and executing field operations. In addition, he works directly with the project manager, brainstorms technical solutions, manages vendors and specialized personnel throughout projects, and brings technical experts together to solve complex problems, among myriad responsibilities.
Amid his primary professional endeavors, Mr. Floyd continued his education and earned a Master of Science in engineering management from his alma mater in 2025. He considers this his most significant achievement, as he became the first in his family to attain a master’s degree. He has also received training in various environmental aspects relevant to his work, and serves as a dedicated member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Project Management Institute.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Floyd is currently pursuing his professional engineering license. He also hopes to continue honing his craft and improve a little bit every day. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering with environmental initiatives, exercising, playing golf, and competing at Strongman events.
