Jennifer D. Phillips, Owner at Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of food services.
Wielding business degrees from Brenau University and Savannah State University in 2008 and 2011, respectively, Ms. Phillips began her career in supply chain management in 2013. She worked at Lowe’s Corporate in North Carolina, becoming the first woman to manage its glove category, and subsequently gained experience at various companies in the supply chain and purchasing sectors. Her purchasing responsibilities included buying items for Atlas Copco and Compass Group, ranging from food and dog food to medical equipment and appliances.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Phillips decided to move back home to Georgia to be closer to her family. Her father, Ronald, has owned Baldinos, a restaurant specialize in quality subs, salads, and wraps in the city of Pooler for the past 20 years—her grandmother also dedicated 25 years to it. As they sought ways to be closer to family and expand the business, they decided to purchase a food truck. She and her cousin became owners, aiming to grow the family business from a brick-and-mortar establishment to a more mobile, grab-and-go operation.
For the last three years, Ms. Phillips has excelled as the co-owner of Pooler Baldinos Food Truck, its menu consisting of sub sandwiches, salads, and loaded fries to accommodate both vegetarian and omnivorous diets. She and her team have catered and participated in various events, including St. Patrick’s Day parades, Savannah’s pride festival, and Comic Con and anime conferences. In addition, they have established partnerships with the local Amazon and Hyundai warehouses, where they sell sandwiches to employees during 30-minute lunch breaks.
Ms. Phillips attributes her success to the mentors she has had in both her corporate and personal life, who encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone and put her all into whatever she wanted to pursue. Her father played a significant source of support, allowing her the freedom to take chances. Looking ahead, she aims to retire her father from the restaurant business and take over operations. She aspires to honor her family’s legacy by expanding the business and making it more successful that it has ever been.
