Bryce D. Holt, Historian at Richmond Encyclopedia, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of historical research.

Mr. Holt’s affinity for history and its preservation began at a young age. When he was 14, after his baptism into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was introduced to a family history website called FamilySearch.org, through which he could explore his ancestry. Among many discoveries, he stumbled upon his family’s long history in his home city of Richmond, Utah, sparking a passion and deep appreciation for historical research.

Since 2021, when he interned at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, Mr. Holt has embarked on a professional mission to record and preserve the historical narrative of Richmond and Cove, including events and architecture, as well as the stories of thousands of its inhabitants, on his independent website, Bryce’s History Project: Random Encyclopedia. For four years, he worked to preserve and collect the history of Richmond’s pioneers from its founding in 1859 to 1870. After writing more than 500 biographies, he now dedicates himself to documenting the experiences of Richmond’s veterans.

“When I set out to document my hometown’s history,” Mr. Holt explains, “I began by learning about my ancestors and their influence on the city. I find genealogy fascinating and deeply engaging. My advice…hold tight to your family: they’re stronger than you might think.”

Additionally, Mr. Holt has leveraged his expertise in this area through roles such as board member for the Cache Valley Historical Society and consultant for the James & Drusilla Camp within the Richmond Daughters of Utah Pioneers Relic Hall. Looking ahead, he aspires to pursue an even bigger career in historical preservation, despite the challenges of securing employment in the field. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in family history research at Brigham Young University-Idaho, while compiling a comprehensive archive of stories from local veterans.
