Michael I. Hanna-Butros Meyering, Chief Communications and Policy Officer at the Office of the Chief Information Officer, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of public service.
Originally from Egypt, Mr. Meyering’s parents ran an international business that allowed him to travel extensively as a child, primarily across Europe and Asia. He relocated to the United States at 10 years old, and by that point, he’d been exposed to a diverse array of cultures, broadening his understanding and approach to different people, environments, and ideas—which prepared him for his career as a communicator, business leader, and visual arts professional.
While pursuing his bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and then marketing, Mr. Meyering gained work experience as a visual floor leader and key holder at Cole Haan, a reservation and marketing intern at the Resort at Pelican Hill, an assistant manager at Marmi, and a visual and assistant manager at Coach. With degrees in hand, he served as a marketing intern for Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum and a training and support leader at Apple –where he empowered people through technology, particularly those with accessibility needs—before finding success as the chief financial officer at Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity Inc. and as a customer support analyst at IGT—where he navigated cultural differences and ensured effective communication to integrate technology across global locations, such as Ireland and Australia. From 2020 to 2023, he was active as the director of information systems and technology for ZLINE Kitchen and Bath—where he oversaw enterprise resource planning systems and alar systems and was involved in expanding the business to the Middle East.
Since 2017, Mr. Meyering has excelled as the chief executive officer at Michill Designs, through which he utilizes his skills in photography, cinematography, scripting, 3D animation, and 2D design to help people and businesses share their vision with customers and community; he has captured real estate listings, individual portraits, business products, weddings, concerts, and speaking events. He has also served as the chief communications and policy officer in the Office of the Chief Information Officer for the State of Nevada since 2023; in this capacity, he manages a position of considerable scope and responsibility, creating better technologies to improve access to government services and unifying various agencies that operate independently and ensuring cohesive functionality across the state’s diverse IT environments. In addition, he leads the AI and Emerging Technology Working Group, helping to implement AI policies for the executive branch of the company and producing policies that address technological trends and garner support from all stakeholders involved.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Meyering wants to enjoy raising his two sons and be a good husband to his wife, Erin. He prides himself on being an excellent example to their children, showing that it’s possible to succeed in one’s career and maintain a balanced life.
