Judy A. Anderson, Chief Range Officer at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of

In addition to her accrued experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Certified Nursing Assistant, and a firefighter, Ms. Anderson has excelled across numerous positions at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association in Indiana—which aims to preserve the nation’s heritage in the sport of muzzleloading through recreational educational, and historical ventures—for over a decade.  Starting out as a shooter there from 2011 to 2016, she advanced to the role of range officer and was directly responsible for the safe conduct of firing on the range during the organization’s competitions. After just a year, she was promoted to Head Range Officer for several years before becoming the first female Chief Range Officer the organization has ever had in 2022.

Among Ms. Anderson’s primary responsibilities is to ensure that people are operating their guns at the range in the correct and safe way. Over the course of a week, she goes to 50 ranges, ensuring that everything is set up properly. While she stresses to her range officers that safety is the number one priority, she also always reminds them to have fun. Hosting numerous events throughout the year, the NMLRA offers recreational, educational, historical, and cultural venues for students and teachers alike such as match competitions, hunting, gun making and safety, historical reenactments, exhibits, museums, libraries, and interactive classroom learning, among other programs. Ms. Anderson has taken the most pride in bringing smiles to people’s faces and hearing them say that the shoot they participated in was the most organized they’ve ever experienced.

Attributing her success to her friendly and helpful attitude when dealing with people, Ms. Anderson also says she owes a lot to her husband and son, whom she considers her most significant cheerleaders. Looking toward the future, she strives to recruit more female shooters and improve as a Chief Range Officer by being even more organized and familiar with her day-to-day tasks. She also wants to teach and encourage young children to get involved as certain aspects of the process are not just important to know when it comes to shooting but in life. When she’s not spending time with her three grandchildren, she enjoys fishing, gardening, painting, sewing, and woodworking with her husband in her spare time.
